In November 2019, I delivered a speech in front of around 100 people. It was my first-time public speaking experience, and I almost didn’t do it. I am now glad that I faced my fear and decided to complete this challenge. The story I shared was deeply personal and vulnerable. During that time, I was recovering from a breakup with someone who you would call toxic. I was hurting, I felt lonely, and I carried shame because ‘friends’ had told me that I should have known better. Yet, instead of crying a river and staying in hiding, I decided to reconnect with the person I used to be before that relationship: courageous, confident, inspiring.
This post isn’t about going out of your comfort zone. This post is about listening to your inner wisdom.
I got into that relationship, knowing that person was not right for me and would eventually break my heart, because something was telling me there was a lesson to be learned in that experience.
I was right.
I took this speaking in public challenge because deep inside, I knew it would help me grow into a stronger and more resilient person.
I was right.
Many people live their lives safely.
They avoid love so they won’t get hurt and disappointed.
Some choose to stay in hiding, afraid of failure.
They kill their dreams because they are not willing to put in the work.
But the truth is,
“The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.”
And it is true for everything in life.
In love and relationships, you need to put yourself out there, risk rejection and disappointment to eventually find the right person, and do the deep work on yourself to turn the relationship into a satisfying and happy partnership filled with love, joy, and inner peace.
In business, you need to be consistent, get out there to do networking, post your face on social media, and share your knowledge. Do the mindset work to silence the inner critic and banish perfectionism.
Nothing in life is easy, but almost everything is relatively simple.
There is no magic recipe for success, but there is one that works every time.
Choose yourself.
Listen to what your heart is telling you and follow through with the higher version of yourself. Don’t take shortcuts and don’t fall for quick fixes. Do the work, stay brave, and get out there. Because only by taking action can you breed lasting confidence and courage into your life.
